That’s kind of the question.
As the release date for The Witch Laws draws inexorably closer, I’m making some rather odd decisions. Decisions I never thought I’d have to make. I’ve already talked about the fact that I’ve chosen to publish the book in paperback, and how much of a shock that was to me. But there’s also the fact that there’s other sources of revenue that my research has taken me down.
I’m in the relatively lucky position that I designed the cover artwork and chapter headers for it using Canva. I’m paying for the pro version, as well as manipulating any of the graphics I’ve used – either by using filters, tonal changes or merging more than one image together. This means that, under Canva’s T’s & C’s, the image created is now unique and is mine to use as I wish. Including using them as merchandise. The maps, which I created with Inkarnate Pro, are again, mine to use as I wish. Which again, includes merch.
So. I did a bit of research, looking into other indie authors that I follow and admire, and found that some of them have set up shops and accounts in which to sell their book inspired merchandise. Is it too big of a step, too conceited of me, if I think I should do this also? I’ve come to the conclusion that, no. It’s not.
I’m proud of my work. I’m proud of my artwork and maps. I feel that I’ve designed them better than I could have imagined, and so started to seriously consider setting up a Redbubble account. I did the homework, and found that there’s no cost to setting up a store on the site; the products are printed to order, meaning there’s no waste and no backlog of stock. All I have to do is upload my designs on to the site, set what products I want them on, and viola. The shop is ready and raring to go, with little effort from me other than the work I’ve already done. If any of my designs sell, it’s a source of passive income that can help supplement the time I intend to spend writing the rest of The Moon Magic Chronicles series as well this blog and review site.
Anyway.
If you’d like to see any of my designs, and maybe buy a poster or two, the link to my Redbubble Store is here. It goes without saying, that I appreciate all the support I’ve already had, and appreciate everything in the future.
