✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨
I came into contact with
@sallyaltassauthor in the discord group for the Patreon of indie author
@helenscheuerer . So I was both curious and nervous when she asked me to read her own upcoming debut indie release, The Witch Laws! It’s always a little nerve wracking to read a review copy from someone you’ve actually had personal contact with and don’t want to, you know, completely destroy 😆😆
Luckily any concern was unnecessary, as I really enjoyed this fantasy tale!
Seren has been raising her siblings after their parents’ death – their life simple but full of love. Until Seren turns 18 and starts to discover she has healing powers. She gets arrested for witchcraft and taken away from her family. Eventually both her and her family are drawn into something much bigger than they could ever have expected – and a gathering darkness threatens the very fabric of existence…
I really enjoyed this debut indie read. Everyone loves found family, but it’s not often wholesome sibling relationships feature so heavily in a fantasy read like this. Seren was a bit passive for my taste at times, but she was unwaveringly loyal to her family and I liked that a lot about her. Rheagan (possible love interest?) is an interesting character that I’m keen to learn more about, I sense a lot of depth there. There are a lot of different characters and personalities, and they’re all unique, individual and engaging.
I went in basically blind on the magic system and world in this book and I enjoyed the way it unfolded. I liked what we discovered about this world so far and I’m looking forward to exploring it more!
This story definitely feels like it has only just begun and I’m really keen to read more and see it develop. I enjoyed the time spent with the characters and eagerly await the next installment!
