    The Stones of Carnac

    David Schneider

    🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕

The third book in the Melanie Simpson series by American author David Schneider hit the shelves a few months ago – and although this review is a little late to the press, it’s finally arrived.

In the previous book, The Map of Orbis Terrarum, Melanie’s grandmother had arrived from England to care for her following the death of her mother. Melanie, her best friend Katch and their boyfriends Frankie and Beanie, race off to Seattle, to try to find an old professor friend of Mel’s father; but chaos, danger and death follow them every step of the way. Tragedy follows, although Mel and her friends have no recollection of what happened. Just that they had a near miss.
With their tails between their legs, the four return to Lake Oswega in Oregon, and now, Melanie must decide whether to travel to the Isle of Wight with her grandmother, or remain…

That’s where The Stones of Carnac picks up. Melanie, Katch and Mel’s grandmother, Emilee Harris travel to the United Kingdom for the summer. But, Melanie only agreed after she realised she needed to get to a French town named Carnac, which is host to three sites of ancient standing stones. Mel had recognised the alignment of the Stones from a locket she’d inherited and was desperate to investigate them; believing them to be significant in her quest to finish what her father started at Roswell. But, Mel isn’t the only person who is desperate, and hot on her heels are agents of the US Government…

What I love about Schneider’s writing is that he takes you on a breathless chase across Europe, while also keeping you up to date with the goings on in the United States. There’s action in England, Oregon and the East Coast, while also taking a step back in time to Mel’s father’s discovery – the one which set off the whole adventure. He takes us through the highs of the exciting discoveries Mel makes, while also guides us through the lows of the devastating losses Mel suffers through.

Honestly, if you love UFO’s, love history and archeology, love mystery and love espionage, then this is the perfect series for you. Melanie Simpson has everything, and I can’t wait for the next one.

I reviewed The Stones of Carnac after receiving an ARC directly from DJ Schneider. You can order the book from Amazon here.
