Heidi Catherine and Tamar Sloan

The final book in the Sovereign Code series is here, and it’s filled from the first sentence to the last with a battle for survival. Not just for River and Echo and humanity, but for the very bees that threaten each and every life remaining on the planet. The leader of the Green Zone, Oren, survived the battle in the Hive, where he harvested people’s spinal fluid in a chase for immunity from bee venom; and now holds River captive in the towering building known as The Sting. Will River and Echo unite in time to stop the crazed despot before he carries out his world ending plan? Or will Oren reach his ultimate goal; to be the King of the Immune?
While Sting Wars is aimed at the growing genre of New Adult literature, it deals with some incredibly gritty and gruesome themes throughout it. I’ve talked before how Catherine and Sloan don’t shy away from controversial and important topics, but that’s all amplified within this one book. From the off, there’s discussion around suicidal ideation, depression, war and the affects of humanity upon the environment. But, don’t get me wrong, they don’t just cover darkness and despair in this magnificent book. The main theme is how love can conquer all, and how unity can overcome the one. It’s powerful and incredibly inspiring.
Reading River and Echo’s love story is difficult. At times, you may want to grab them by the shoulders and make them listen to each other – and if not them, then certainly the adults who allow them to continuously put themselves in danger – but you can’t deny they’ve got heart, soul and courage in spades. More than enough to create a new world where everyone has plenty of food to eat and not live in fear of the tiny insects that are our planets lifeblood.
