Tamar Sloan and Heidi Catherine

Hayze has woken up from the simulation, and wants nothing more than to return to it to save Aura, the love of his life. He knows that the Leaders of each of the four Quadrants have lied to the teens from his own Quadrant, Fire, and the teens from Water – swapping their memories and making them believe they were each other. Now, he knows the truth, and desperately wants to save – not only Aura – but the remaining five other teens from the simulation. He just needs to escape the sterile white room he’s trapped in, forced to watch the Leaders’ sick game play out.
Once again, Sloan and Catherine have managed to dive deep into the psyche of teenagers, showing their desires, worries and motivations with a raw realness that makes the reader fully understand what fuels them. It’s an eye-opening read, remembering everything that a teenager feels, and how sometimes, it’s impossible for them to speak their mind – the uncertainties and self-consciousness that rattles around. Being a teenager isn’t easy, and Sloan and Catherine show how difficult it really can be for one when navigating long held discriminations, friendship, jealously and love. Especially when they’re thrown into life-threatening situations and have no idea what is happening, or why. They manage to show how strong bonds are from a teen’s perspective, how strong they are. Their books are powerful, emotional and raw – but they’re also immensely enjoyable, providing a rip-roaring adventure as a group of 18 year olds fight against a gross injustice and try to bring the world the rightness it deserves.
